The first girl into outer space, Abbie Anderson of Peach Grove, Pennsylvania, is on her way to Venus as Earth's goodwill ambassador. Suddenly her rocket ship goes off course and she crash-lands on the planet Meanus, home of three perfectly awful people: Lord Groucho, Lady Grumble and Sir Groan.

Abbie is imprisoned with another intruder, Zebulon Zook from Mirth. In a literal battle of wits, the two youngsters out-duel their adversaries, who eventually learn that it's more fun to be good-natured than perfectly awful.
