Vulnerable is the sequel to Friday's Child. Mary asks Alan why the editor of the local newspaper was so keen to speak to him. Alan is reluctant to answer, but Mary wheedles from him that Mike wants to run a story that Alan had been seen going to a young prostitute's flat.

He insists that his meeting was for innocent reasons, but Mary has her doubts. What follows is a tense and bitter exchange, with revelation following recrimination, as Alan and Mary face up to the fault-lines in their outwardly stable marriage and the probability that Alan's tryst will become front page news!

Vulnerable can also be performed as the second act of the three-act play, Friday's Child, along with Friday's Child and Faking Genuine

Premiere Production: Vulnerable was first performed in March 2015 by TOADS Theatre Company, directed by Anna Reynolds.

  • ALAN HURST - A middle-aged insurance executive and a local magistrate. Professionally competent, but with a personal diffidence, earnest, with an avuncular manner.
MARY HURST - The wife of Alan and a similar age. Outwardly, a very "proper", middle-class housewife. Mary does good works, plays bridge and is a pillar of the Townswomen's Guild.
