Delightful inventions, reverberating with the ecology of land and ocean, render exciting and newly relevant in this adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale.

In the harmonious world of merpeople, the little mermaid Pearl dreams of the world above. Her sisters Luna and Coral, her father, Anemone the Sea King, and her grandmother, the Great Mother, warn her of dangers above.

But Pearl, in love with the handsome prince whose life she saved, trades her voice to the Sea Witch to become human. After the Sea Witch is vanquished by her twin sister, the Great Mother, Pearl regains her voice, marries the prince, and happiness and harmony prevail.

REVIEWS:

"Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival's The Little Mermaid is the ideal children's show. Not only are the mermaids a treat for little girls, but the pirate ship scene is just what little boys want."

 The Morning Call, Allentown, PA.

 The Boston Globe

"One reason this story plays so well to modern audiences is that it speaks to issues of adolescent rebellion that still exist."

 Cape Cod Online

"Wheelock Family Theatre's production is cleverly modernized and adapted for today's audiences. This delightful, fanciful story, unlike Andersen's, ends jubilantly."
