  • Casting: 5M, 2F, 3M or F

  • CHRALES DICKENS - Tall, slim, sledom standing still; a dynamo of energy with a mesmerizing voice. In his early thirties, he is already near the height of his powers.
  • THE CHILD - Ten year old. Dressed in shades of grey and black.
  • MARK LEMON - Editor of "Punch" magazine, the humorous weekly. His is advancing toward middle age and corpulence.
  • FREDERICK DICKENS - The younger brother of Charles Dickens. Twenty-three, he is something of a ne'er-do-well, the charming variety.
  • CLARKSON STANFIELD - The painter. About thirty-two, there is a quality about him that is, at once, mischievous yet gentle.
  • HELEN HOGARTH - The ten-year old niece of Charles Dickens.
  • CHARLEY DICKENS - Charles Dickens' son, also about ten.
  • MRS. STANFIELD - Wife of Stanfield. In her early thirties, she is small and delicately featured, with the most amazing pair of dancing eyes.
  • CATHERINE DICKENS - Wife of Charles Dickens. She is also in her late twenties or early thirties. A taller woman than Mrs. Stanfield, her beauty is of a sturdier sort.
  • JOHN FORSTER - Dickens' closest friend and advisor. Also in his thirties, he is in many ways the opposite of Dikens: Though given to occasional fits of joviality, he is more by nature gruff and taciturn.
