Can I get a ‘reading copy’ of a show?
Yes, we have an extensive perusal library service available. You can obtain perusal material for up to three shows at any one time to help you choose your show. The hire period is four weeks and includes the script, vocal score and cassette tape/Cd (if available). The cost is A$15.00 per show + gst and A$20.00 per show for overseas clients.
How Do I Apply For A Performance Licence?
Please send the completed Application Form located on the home page of our website or email your enquiry. All the musicals and works listed on our website are covered by copyright. No public performance of a musical work, under copyright, may be given in part or in total, without prior authorisation, in the form of a written licence from ORiGiN Theatrical.
Why Are Some Shows ‘Restricted’
Some musicals may be restricted in certain areas at certain times. Always obtain written confirmation from us that your show is available to you before announcing a season and planning auditions. From time to time rights to a show are withdrawn without notice.
What is a Royalty Fee?
Royalties are paid to the authors and composers of a copyrighted work and is a way of them being paid each time their work is performed. A royalty fee is due whenever a work is performed regardless of audience size and whether an admission is charged or not. Includes classroom and private events.
Are Charity Performances Subject To A Royalty?
Charity performances are subject to the same royalty as any other performance. Royalties are a means of livelihood to writers and/or their estates.
What Is Hire Material?
We provide on a rental basis all the material necessary to produce the show. We supply Rehearsal Material – includes the script and in some cases we provide libretto-vocal books which includes the script as well as the vocal parts. The Piano/Vocal Scores (the piano part as well as the vocal lines. Orchestral Material – the individual instrumental books for each musician.
Why Can’t We Video Our Show?
Your licence agreement to give a ‘live stage presentation’ of a musical strictly forbids the recording of your performance by any device for any reason. A videotape for classroom use or for archival purposes are not permitted and violates the author’s right to reproduce their work. However a special Archival Video Licence for some shows is permitted. Archival Video Licenses are available for: Cinderella, Flower Drum Song, Oklahoma!, The King and I, A Grand Night For Singing, Some Enchanted Evening, South Pacific, The Buddy Holly Story and Shout!
