MAN OF LA MANCHA

It tells of the deeds of Alonso Quijana, an elderly country gentelman "whose brains dry up" and who imagines he is a dauntless knight known as Don Quixote de la Mancha. Quijana has lain down the melancholy burden of sanity and decided to sally forth as the Don to right the wrongs in the world. At an inn he rescues a whore Aldonza from the drunken muleteers who brutalize her. Despite her speech and appearances he imagines her to be his lady - Dulcinea. Together with his faithful servant Sancho he travels the land defending the honour of Dulcinea, seeing good in everyone until he is brought back to reality by the terrifying knight of the mirrors. Cervantes finishes his romantic story in the prison, just in time to face an uncertain future at the hands of the cruel Inquisition, to the wistful singing of Aldonza - The Impossible Dream.
